  108.  The dashboard is located at the bottom of the screen. If informs the
  109.  player as to the life level of the character. A light will go on if
  110.  there is a message in the electronic mail box. A stylised eagle takes
  111.  shape as you discover the pieces and the weapon that you use is
  112.  displayed there.

  127. THE INFORMATION POSTS.
  128. ======================
  129.
  130. During your travels throughout the base, you will pass by information
  131. posts. When you pass by one of these move LOW to change your viewpoint,
  132. this way you can see the information post as if you were facing it. To
  133. 'leave' this viewpoint and return to the game press ESCAPE. At each
  134. information post you will use HIGH, LOW, RIGHT and LEFT to point to a
  135. menu and FIRE to validate it. The ESCAPE key will help you leave a menu
  136. or submenu.
  137.
  138. Interactive Information Posts.
  139. ------------------------------
  140.
  141. We advise you to constantly monitor this information post, especially when
  142. you have a message (red indicator on the dashboard). During you first
  143. encounter with this information post, you will go directly to the PRIVATE
  144. screen.
  145.
  146.
  147. News
  148. ----
  149.
  150. It is important to read the base news, since they contain essential clues
  151. for ending the game. The most important news only pass once so read them
  152. carefully.
  153.
  154.
  155. Map
  156. ---
  157.
  158. The map helps you find your position in the base, but it lacks some
  159. information that is crucial to the game. Two areas are missing from the
  160. map ... it is up to you to find them.
  161.
  162.
  163. Game (reversi)
  164. --------------
  165.
  166. The game of reversi is very important to the story but don't worry, you
  167. dont need to be a reversi expert to complete GOLDEN EAGLE.
  168.
  169.
  170. Rules of Reversi.
  171. -----------------
  172.
  173. Let us briefly go over the rules of Reversi: 2 players take turns putting
  174. their coloured pieces on the board. Here the computer is the first player
  175. and you are the second.
  176.
  177. You cannot put down a piece unless it results in a turnover. A turnover
  178. is when you turn over at least one of your opponents pieces. Your
  179. opponents piece can be turned over if it is surrounded by two of your
  180. pieces, including the one you just put down. The computer checks each
  181. play and turns over the pieces. When you can no longer put any pieces
  182. down, each piece is counted and the player with the most pieces of his
  183. colour wins the game. 'YOU WON' is displayed if you have won.
  184.
  185.
  186. Commands
  187. ---------
  188.
  189. You can choose the 'beginner' level or the 'master' level. At the
  190. beginning of the game the 'PASS' option lets the computer make the first
  191. move. 'Play'makes you make the first move. 'Back' cancels the move you
  192. have just made. 'Hint' indicates a move that you can make that will be
  193. relatively effective. 'New' resets the board.
  194.
  195.
  196. Disk
  197. ----
  198.
  199. It is possible to save a game in progress (SAVE) in order to continue
  200. to play it at a later time (LOAD).
  201. Follow the instructions on the screen to do this.
  202.
  203.
  204. Private.
  205. --------
  206.
  207. As soon as you encounter an interactive information post, you will be
  208. asked to enter a code. You will enter it using the HIGH, LOW, RIGHT, LEFT
  209. and FIRE commands after having read it on the instructions.
  210.

  212. Mail Box.
  213. ---------
  214.
  215. In the mail box you will find messages sent to you by certain characters
  216. in the base. These may be very important. You can read and re-read these
  217. messages with the up and down arrow keys of the electronic mailbox.
  218.
  219.
  220. ARMOURIES
  221. =========
  222.
  223. Armouries are basically designed for weapons maintenance. There, weapons
  224. are deposited and picked up a little later. The armoury post is able,
  225. through module recognition, to return a weapon to it's owner. If your
  226. module is damaged, this recognition will not take place, and you must
  227. make your own choice. You can take advantage of this to change weapons
  228. but there is no ideal weapon.
  229.
  230.
  231. THE SAFES.
  232. ==========
  233.
  234. These hold the pieces of the GOLDEN EAGLE. There are more safes than there
  235. are pieces. Some of these may be opened by listening to the combination
  236. lock. They must be opened even if they are empty. Remember the combinations
  237. of the safes that you can open....
  238. To open a safe by just listening, you should know that a combination begins
  239. and ends with an 0 and always has three numbers. You must turn the dial
  240. slightly in each direction. Time for you to play.....
  241.
  242. Combination example with numbers 2 4 7 : 0,4,2,7,0 or 0,7,2,4,0.
  243.
  244.
  245. TRAPS
  246. =====
  247.
  248. The base is full of traps, here is some advice on how to avoid them.
  249.
  250.  - Look for objects faling from the ceiling.
  251.
  252.  - Avoid robots, beams, and liquid or gas leaks.
  253.
  254.  - Shoot at or walk on electrical plate switches.
  255.
  256.  - Walk on anything that looks suspicious.
  257.
  258.  - When you are in the hangars, dont get caught by the guards.
  259.
  260.  - In desparate situations, try to jump or crawl, shoot at the walls,
  261.    you never know.
